Definition--->When you want to assign more than one page layout to the same Profile then we use Record Type.
Note---->When you want to control the pick list fields for a profile then we use Record Type Concept.
Navigation====>
Setup---->Build---->Create--->Object---->Select Existing Object------>Record Type---->New
Step1--->Enter Record Type Label and Description---->Next
Step2--->Apply Layout to all Profiles
Step3--->Save.
